How to omit Index from Printed Documentation?

I got pretty far with RoboHelp for Word 6. However, I am now trying to compile my Help documentation as Printed Documentation.

Everything seems to work fine. However, it takes a very long time for RoboHelp to compile the Index. Since we do not really care for an Index in the Printed Documentation, we would like to remove it (that is, not include it in the Printed Documentation).

However, conditional tags will not likely work (since the Index is not actually in a Word/RTF document), and Index does not seem to have a Property that can be adjusted. Also, Printed Documentation does not seem to have an option "Exclude Index" or similar.

The only solution that we could come up with is to manually remove all index entries before compiling Printed Documentation. But that takes a lot of work and time, obviously, and is far from efficient.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello Peter,
one idea: In RH Word the index entries are marked in the footnotes of Word with a "K". You can copy your procject, open the footnote view and delete all those paragraphs.

Doh. I think Leon and myself better have a detention after school tonight. Write 100 times, RoboHelp for Word is not RoboHelp HTML.

I could send PeterHATT one of my HHK files; he could then rename it over and over (good practice for when he eventually moves away from RH for Word).

Why not rename the HHK file so that the project does not recognise it while you generate a printed output, or remove it and restore it later?

Dear Chet and Peter.

Generating the Word document and then deleting the index in Word would not help me all that much, since it would not speed up the generation of the Word document (although it would speed up the generation of a PDF file from the Word document of course).

Renaming the HHK file so that the project does not recognise it while you generate a printed output, or removing it and restoring it later sounds like a great plan. I will certainly try this.

This user forum is what makes RoboHelp such a great product! Thank you all so very much for your assistance! I will do my best to contribute to this user forum... one day...

Dear Peter.

There is apparently no such things as a HHK index file for RoboHelp for Word.

I looked carefully at the various RoboHelp for Word files, but I do not see any other likely candidate for an index file. Perhaps this information is stored in the project file?

Have you considered generating the Word document and then deleting the index in Word?

Nay, nay, not so!

In the third window of the Generate process, "Print Document Section Layout," the default options are: Default Title Page, TOC, Chapter Layout (which you set in the second window), Glossary, and Index. Using the green arrows, you get to choose which of them will appear in your print output (which can be different for multiple print layouts, such as chapter-by-chapter for review purposes).

Thank you very much for your very timely reply!

I did find this option in RoboHelp for HTML (just to verify your reply). However, I cannot find this option in RoboHelp for Word 6. The Printed Documentation screens for RoboHelp for HTML and RoboHelp for Word are somewhat different.

Of course, I should be using RoboHelp for HTML. However, we only recently switched from WinHelp to HTMLHelp, and our translators still require RoboHelp for Word files for their translation (althoug we hope to change this soon).

I suppose that I could convert my RoboHelp for Word project to a temporary RoboHelp for HTML project, just to compile Printed Documentation. But that is probably a bit risky with regard to the layout, etc.!

So, is it possible to omit Index from the Printed Documentation when using RoboHelp for Word 6?

Sorry, I haven't used RH for Word in a dog's age, so I have no other suggestions. Hopefully, someone else can help.
