How to use robohelp 8 to create help documents.

HI,

Iam new to robo help. I have downloaded the trial version, went through the demo tour. I could understand how to import word document, now i want to know how to associate the word document with the respective image to explain that specific image. And can i have look at the preview that i create. If yes How?

Thank you. It was taught by a 3rd party vendor for a company that supplies training on multiple types of software. What you stated is what I'd read online prior to attending the class when I initially installed RoboHelp 7 and was trying to figure out which way to go. I will return to RoboHelp 8 HTML since it outputs WebHelp which. The output can be used cross-platform, correct ie Windows, Linus, Mac ? Beth

Yes, cross-browser means basically any PC with a browser. This should have been covered in your class but it would seem it wasn't.

Basically when you create WebHelp output and pop it up on a server, anyone on the planet with access to your server can view the WebHelp using any browser they like.

However, you need to keep in mind that it may look and operate differently depending on the user's browser as well as how they have configured it.

When you have other questions, just ask here and there are lots of us that hang out and will be happy to help.

I recently took a class on RoboHelp 8. They only taught RoboHelp 8 HTML, not RoboHelp for Word. In their training manual it states that Microsoft HTML Help constraints are "Local file only (not available over an intranet or the internet). Our company wishes to create a file which can be put on a server and shared by multiple users from within a Java application. So, it appears what I was taught is not what I want to use. I am looking at creating a RoboHelp 8 for Word file and from that creating a WebHelp which appears to meet my needs. However, when I bring up RobHelp 8 for Word, it is a bit different than what I saw in the RoboHelp 8 HTML training. I am trying to find out where the style sheet(s) is an whether there are some pre-defined style sheets I can use. I've found the pre-defined skins and am going to use one of them. Is there a video tutorial you can recommend that has the basics for creating a RoboHelp 8 for Word help file? Am I on the right track for the environment I am trying to create the file for? Thank you for any help you can provide. Beth

Do what you will, but you would be well advised to stick with RoboHelp HTML if your desired output type is WebHelp.

There is probably a good reason there is essentially no training available for RoboHelp for Word.

Sorry, I'm unaware of any training videos on it. IconLogic (probably their training material was used for your class) might have a skills and drills for it, but I'm doubtful.

Can you explain your affinity toward RoboHelp for Word?

I'm also a bit concerned that you took the wron impression away from your class. Some of what you stated seems wrong. RoboHelp HTML will indeed allow you to create Web Based output.

I was choosing RoboHelp 8 for Word because I was told that Microsot HTML Help (which I'm assuming is the output from RoboHelp 8 HTML) only supports a Windows platform. The application the WebHelp will be linked to will reside on varying platforms ie Windows, Linux, Mac. So, that would make it impossible to use RoboHelp 8 for HTML, correct? If that is not correct, I'd like to know. It seems it would be the easiest way to go to use RoboHelp 8 HTML.

Hi Archita and welcome to the RH community.

First of all, can I assume you are using the RH for Word application as opposed to the RH HTML application. If so, you can import a document via the Import > Document menu item. You can preview your content via the RoboHelp menu item (or ribbon if using Office 2007) although you'll have to have a generated copy of your output. If you haven't, you'll be asked to create it.

As for your other question, I'm not sure I understand what you need. Can you give us a bit more detail?
