Question

I can't make changes to a project file.

I have admin privileges on the file. It's checked out of TFS. I am trying to add a conditional build expression and define it. I can add it but can't define it. The option to define any conditional build expression is grayed out.

What are you trying to do by defining? Are you trying to create a new CBT?

Did you check out the entire project from TFS or only some files?

Sorry I forgot to reply to this. I figured out what the problem was.

Adobe help says this:

  1. Create a conditional build tag. Apply it to topics or topic content.
  2. In the Single Source Layouts pod, right-click a layout and select Properties.
  3. Click Define, and define a basic or advanced expression.
  4. Click Save.

What they fail to mention is that if there is some text in the Advanced panel, you can't make any Basic changes until you clear that text. (They do provide a Boolean clue in step 3, but it's not exactly direct.) I inherited this help project and there was an expression in the Advanced panel. It wasn't needed so I cleared that. The Basic button became active and I was able to click that and define the new Conditional Build Expression.
