I'm trying to paste from Word into RH.

  • I go through Notepad but after I paste into RH, the end of the lines have breaks <br /> and it makes it really hard to apply styles on the fly from within RH.
    • How can I paste so that the text has the paragraph code at the end of each line </p> ?
  • I accidently tag a paragraph as part of  an ordered or unordered list, and try to correct my error by clickon the the p or body style to change the list back into normal paragraph style ... and nothing happens. I go into code and have to manually remove all the list tags.
    • Is there a way to just click back into the list and apply the CSS style to make the list a normal paragraph?

Thanks in advance gang!

PS: when I import a Word document it all comes in great with the paragraph tags at the end of lines. For last minute edits, with content from Word, I'm trying to make text insertion as painless as possible.

For the list problem, what happens is that a p tag is added inside the li tag. You can see this happen if the have the tag breadcrumbs displayed at the top of your topic.

The way to get rid of the list is to click on the relevant list icon in the toolbar again, and select the None option - it should be the 4th option in the row.

Are you opening the Word file in Word, selecting all the content, copying with Ctrl+C, then going to Notepad, pasting with Ctro+V, then in Notepad, selecting all the content, copying with Ctrl+C, then going to RoboHelp, and pasting with Ctrl+V? I've used this workflow when I wanted to eliminate the formatting that is applied to the content in Word so I could apply my own styles so I understand the workflow.

Where is the source of truth for this content - in Word or in RoboHelp? If it is to be maintained in Word, you may want to consider linking the Word file to your RoboHelp project? I use that functionality for the Word files that the SMEs in our department edit with their disaster recovery information. RoboHelp does a great job of changing the icon when there's been an update to the content in the Word file, which is the cue to re-run the "update" process which will re-convert the Word file to HTML.

Now, I will say to make this work, you need the cleanest of clean Word file formatting with strict adherence. RoboHelp allows you to map, for example, your Heading 1 style in Word to your H1 style in your CSS file. There's more to it, but that's the general bird's eye view of what you could try.

    Hope this helps.

    Try CTRL SHIFT V.
