Hello!!

What does this little red x mean?

How do I go about fixing this?

Hi there and welcome to our community

The icon means RoboHelp is expecting to find an HTML topic page in the project location and for some reason it has gone missing.

You really need to remove the project from the server and move it to your local drive before anything worse happens. RoboHelp doesn't handle it well when you work as you have described. Where the project files are on a server and you work on them across the network.

I was kind of afraid of that. Is it accurate to say that project file can be on the server but you should not work from project file on the server? As you explained it really should be on a individual or local computer. I noticed that it really responds a lot better locally.

Would Robo Source Control be a good solution for this? We will have 4 to 5 people in that file, typically not all at once but there is the possiblity.

Well, please understand that I'm a simpleton. RoboSource Control can be JUST the ticket for certain situations. But my vote is to always keep things as simple as I can. If it's just you that's the writer, a Source Control system is a bit like detonating a nuclear bomb in order to kill the gnat that's buzzing around you. In other words, it's just overkill. It adds another layer of troubleshooting to the mix when things go wrong. And more often than not, things seem to go wrong, eh?

Now if you are working on a team of three or four authors or more, then Source Control is really the way to fly. But even then you have choices. Do I implement it where it is integrated with RoboHelp or do I use it in a stand alone fashion?

Keeping projects on the server for backup purposes is fine. You just don't want to open RoboHelp, then click File > Open and browse to a network location in order to work on your project. The analogy is that RoboHelp is like your kitchen. Now you can work locally where all the ingredients for your chocolate chip cookies are in the Fridge and the pantry, or you can store them all in the warehouse across town. Hmmm, I need an egg. Get in the truck, dash to the warehouse, fetch the egg and drive back home. Oh, now I need some milk! Back into the truck, across town again to the warehouse, measure out the milk and drive back home.
