Question

importing variables from FM11 to RH10, case sensitive?

We use variables in FM to represent special characters, such as greek letters and math symbols. Recently I've noticed that when variables with the same name but different case are imported, one of the variable definitions disappears after closing and reopening the project.

For example, importing a FM document containing the variables "prime' and "Prime", or "alpha" and "Alpha" results in the variables properly placed in the documents, and the variable names appear in the user-defined variables list. However, after closing and re-opening the project, one of the variables and its definition have disappeared.from the user-defined list.

Is this a known issue with respect to importing variables into RoboHelp? Is there any way to control this?

Thanks,

CMcCauley

I'm not a Fm user but I am aware you cannot have two snippets where the name is the same as another ignoring case.

The workaround is My Snippet UC and my snippet lc. Can you set things up in Fm the same way?

Hello Peter,

Thanks you. I could rename the variables in FrameMaker, but that could prove a little problematic because identical (original) variable definitions also exist in many other files. I think I would then have to repeat the process in each of the other files.

What is interesting is that RoboHelp seems to import the variables from Framemaker correctly, as seen in the screenshot below that includes the variables ggr and Ggr, and prime and Prime. Only after closing and reopening the project does one or the other of the duplicated (aside from case) variables disappear.

Thanks,

Chris McCauley

Maybe that counts as a bug.
