Question

Incorrect import of FrameMaker list styles

Hello all, when importing Framemaker 8 documents with list styles (import by reference), RoboHelp 7 converts them to P-elements with nothing more than a class attribute. The "bullets" are simply added as normal characters at the beginning of the lines. This is of course absolutely undesirable and unusable for serious documentation.

The FM-Sources are cleanly formatted.

Is there a way to get normal HTML list styles when importing Framemaker documents in RH7? Any info (or confirmation that this is all that is possible) would be a great help!

    Robert,
In the FM Document Settings dialog (Rt-click your document in the Project Manager and select Properties), go to the Style Settings tab.
Under Style Conversion Settings, check "Convert AutoNumber to HTML list". - That gives you your UL and LI tags.

If you've autonumbered things in FM that you do not want numbered in RH, click the Select button in the same area. In the dialog that comes up, you can check those styles for which you want the numbers ignored. For example, numbered headings wouldn't be appropriate if you're breaking them into separate topic.

This might not apply to FM imported stuff but underscores are an option in Tools | General. Try turning it off there and importing. Maybe it takes the setting there when it imports from FM.

Thanks for the replies, we are having several problems with the Framemaker import and will look into that. Partially they are so simple yet annoying as Robohelp creating all topic titles with underscores which then of course are displayed in the search results with underscores too.

Also look at the bottom of my article on RH7 and TCS. There is a link to some videos where R Jacquez of Adobe goes through using TCS.

Note: it is not possible to map a list style to a FrameMaker style, the bullet or numbering is ignored after the import. It does not seem possible to use list styles at all in this mapping process. Or am I overlooking something basic?

You migt want to ask in the FrameMaker Integration forum.

From my RH evaluation, I recall that there is a check box for converting autonumbered lists, and a nearby button for selecting which FM formats you want to convert to numbered lists. Possibly this is useful for converting itemized lists as well? I don't have the evalurtion software any more, so I can't check.
