Question

Inserting a hyperlink to a PDF

I'm running RoboHelp 6 and having trouble in a project inserting a hyperlink to a PDF.  I've included the PDF in the Baggage File folder, but when generating a WebHelp layout the hyperlink won't work.  What's peculiar is that if I generate a Microsoft HTML Help layout (.chm) the hyperling to the PDF works.

I create the hyperlink as such:  Insert->Hyperlink, Link to: File ..., then select the pdf in the Baggage File folder of my project.  Like I said, works in Microsoft HTML Help layout, but not WebHelp.  When clicking on the link in the WebHelp project nothing happens.

TIA,

Tony

Welcome to our community

My guess is that you have enabled Mark of the Web so you don't see the Yellow Information Bar in Microsoft Internet Explorer. This should only affect things when you use IE and you are testing off your local C drive. MOTW blocks things like Word documents and PDF.

If your plan is to upload to a web server, the link should work just fine once you upload and try it from there.

Thanks, Rick.  That was it.  Interestingly, Mozilla Firefox ignored Mark of the Web and would display my hyperlinked PDFs.

Hello again

Firefox does ignore Mark Of The Web as it is a Microsoft invention used only for IE browsers.
