Internet Explorer Script Error

I get an Internet Explorer Script Error, similar to a previous post, but cannot resolve this by removing popups (the projects involved have no popups). I have contacted Adobe Help and after going back and forth a number of times, they withdrew the case (gave up?) and suggested I submit to this forum. Any ideas on a fix for this?

Here's the problem:

After the latest updates to Adobe Robohelp installed automatically (in February 2010, I believe), and then recompiling my projects, opening any topic results in an Internet Explorer Script Error. The message says "An error has occurred in the script on this page.... Object doesn't support this property or mtehtod.... URL: mk:@MSITStore:C:\ ..<etc>.... /FileFormat_rtf/Bitmap_Files.htm. Do you want to continue running scripts on this page."

After clearing with "Yes" or "No", the error reappers with every new link that I click.

Background:

RoboHelp Office 8.0  (Adobe RoboHelp for Word, Build 8.0.0.203)

MS Office 2007

Browser: Firefox
Operating System: Windows Vista

Details:

1. The problem does not occur on another machine when I transfer the *.chm to it. It is occurring on the machine that I use to develop the help system.

2. The problem occurs with all Robohelp *.chm, but not with *.chm from other software on my machine.

3. If I login to the machine as another user, the problem occurs then also.

4. I have run MJs Help Diagnostics to no avail.

Welcome to the forum, now clearly the back up for Tech Support.


Not sure I can help but let's try. First of all RoboHelp Office 8.0  (Adobe RoboHelp for Word, Build 8.0.0.203) suggests you do not have the patches applied. Please open RH HTML and check what is showing there. It should be 8.0.2.

The fact that on another machine it works OK until you use your login suggests a profile issue. You could try an uninstall and reinstall using your profile as that might fix it. If not, get IT to create a second profile for you and see if that resolves it. If it does not, then trash it and post back. If it does, then for me that verifies that something clobbered your profile and you will have to go with the new one. That does of course affect your settings for all the software you use so discuss it carefully with IT.

Thanks for the suggestions, Peter.

If I launch RoboHTML.exe independently, I get version 8.0.2.208.  I double checked within RoboHelp Explorer and it still shows as 8.0.0.208 for that. The date on the RoboHTML.exe is 12/14/2008. If I get the "details" from RoboHelp Explorer it shows that most of the files have versions beginning with 8.0.0. In fact, there are no 8.0.2 in there. So this does seem odd, but I'm not sure how to remedy the apparent contradiction in version numbers.

If I check Help | Updates in RoboHelp Explorer, it seems to think I am up to date.

I may not have been clear on the login situation. These are just local logins, not logging onto a network. I have two logins on my development machine, one of which I have used for almost nothing. The same problem appears with both logins (in fact I created it only to try to isolate another RoboHelp bug). I haven't had the problem appear with the *.chm files on several other machines I have tried (Vista, XP, 7).

The shortcut that I start RoboHelp from is "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHELP\RoboHelp.exe"

The date on that file is 12/14/2008, same as RoboHTML.exe that shows the version 8.0.2.208.

Further suggestions?

Hi Bruce,

Does the same error appear when you create a new dummy project and add some hyperlink in the topics.

Also does the same CHM file works fine on other machines, or it shows some scripting error.

Can you please share the chm file which has the scripting error.
