Question

is RoboHelp the best way to use to convert a Word document to Framework

Can I someone tell me whether the above is true or come up with a different answer.

What is the best way to convert a very large word document (600 pages of numerous tables, images, crossreferences, etc).

Thanks

May be worth asking in the Fm forum as well.

Pretty sure @Serge5C71 is talking about FrameMaker here.
@Serge5C71 check out "import Word doc into framemaker" as a google search for a number of hits. Basically it just comes down to making sure that the Word doc's use of styles is consistent throughout the doc - e.g. a Heading 1 formatted as Arial 18 pt in one spot shouldn't change in another place to Times New Roman 16pt.

If you have some specific questions, post over in the FM forum - there's a ton of resources there.

But which one do you mean here? Presumably FrameMaker in which case you can't do it via RoboHelp.

@Serge5C71 To clarify @Jeff_Coatsworth response, he is talking about importing the Word document direct into FrameMaker. Your thread is on a RoboHelp forum and refers to Framework, not FrameMaker.

I think you need to clarify the requirement here.

A 600 page Word doc is right up Framemaker's alley - it specializes in long-form documents with automatic figure series numbering, indices, cross-refs, footnotes, etc. You'll have to do a bit of prep work on the Word doc so that its Styles are consistantly used and properly converted to FM's Paragraph Tags.

    Thanks a lot.

Could you recommend a place where I might get some help in getting through the prep work you mention?

Do you mean FrameMaker? If so RoboHelp does not have a FrameMaker output.

    Ah thanks.

I do get easily confused with framework and Framemaker.
