Issue with Generate in RoboHelp 2019

Currently whenever I try to generate any type of output, it simply shows the status bar moving but the generate never completes. I have tried multiple projects the result is the same. I have moved the location of my output, no change. I rebooted, closed and reopened the project(s) and the application itself, no change. Earlier today I could generate. Any ideas what the problem may be?

thank you

To expand on the cloud storage issue, the sync process can cause problems, for example, if RH tries to open a file that is currently being synced to the cloud or vice versa - because the file is locked all the applications involved seem to get confused and fall over. RH2019 was the first release, and pretty buggy and incomplete in my opinion, so it's defiinitely possible that RH2022 has had further work on behaving appropriately with cloud storage. And I think the Cancel button is more reliable in RH2022 - it's definitely almost useless in RH2019 though. 🙂

Cloud storage varies. Several reports on this forum of OneDrive not working well, something I have experienced as well. Google Drive seems to work OK but it's down to how good the broadband is and so on.

Imported documents will not affect this. Once imported they are just other topics.

Is your 2019 licence a perpetual licence or a subscription? If the latter you could try a later version, the latest being 2022.

First, have you applied all the patches? It think the last one was #14. Second, did this ever work in the past or are you trying for the first time? Third - does it happen if you use the sample project? make sure you're accessing it from your Documents > My RoboHelp Projects folder (not the factory installation location of C:\Program Files\ - that's usually protected).

Thank you for your response. I determined that if my project contained a hyperlink to a local file it casued the problem. Once the link was changed from local file to web link it would compile (generate an output). I recently move my projects to a cloud based storage system. This type of link worked when the project and file were located on a personal drive. Not sure what bearing the cloud storage move played in this issue. I have two other projects that before the move, did compile correctly. Now they both can't generate an output. I know one of the projects contains an imported Word document, I suspect this may be causing the issue. I hope to test more today and try and determine the exact cause.  I appreciate the suggestion to verify RoboHelp is properly patched. I will check that today. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Generally it's not the "best practice" to have your RH projects on network drives or in the cloud. If you have multiple authors working on the same project, it's better to invest in a version control system to check out projects/topics to your local C:\ drive and check them back in when finished. If it's just you working on them, keep them local and make backups to your network/cloud locations.

Additionally, I can not stop the process within the application.
