Question

Jumping to a specific topic externally

Is there a way to open up a specific help topic from outside of the help file within an email? Say I click the link in the email and it opens the help project, and then automatically jumps to a specific topic in the help project. Does this involve bookmarks in the project?

I'm thinking I have the format off a little. So if this is my start page info:

X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/StartPage.htm

And the topic I want opened is the same folder as the start page:

X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/Topic22.htm

Then this isn't working:

X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/StartPage.htm#X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/Topic22.htm

Corrections?

Hi ClubHans

Peter may be on his way home from work or to supper about now (he lives in the UK)

The correct path would be:
X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/StartPage.htm#Topic22.htm

Or to a bookmark on that page:
X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/StartPage.htm#Topic22.htm#BookMarkName

Or if this file were in a folder of your help project named MoreStuff:
X:/Stuff Folder/Help Project/StartPage.htm#MoreStuff/Topic22.htm

The link below should help you figure out quite easily what the link should be:

You need a link with the format

pathtostartpage/startpage.htm#pathtotargettopic/targettopic.htm

That is fully described in this topic. Click here.

It only involves bookmarks if you want to open the page at a bookmark in which case you would add to the above

#nameofbookmark
