Large spaces in robohelp output

Hi

I've created a Framemaker doc using the DITA Open Toolkit and linked it to Robohelp to produce Webhelp. I use Adobe Tech Comms Suite v2 by the way.

When publishing in Robohelp though the spacing between words is really wide, about double or triple the norm. I've looked at the paragragh designer in Frame and cant see anything obviously wrong and the stylesheets in Robohelp arent showing anything odd either. Anyone got any ideas where I should be looking?

Help apprecicated - I've been looking into this on and off for a couple of weeks now.

Nick

I had this as well; I changed the word spacing in the CSS to 0 em for all

styles; for some reason RH added spacing.

Thanks Mark,

That will solve another problem I have. We are moving to Oxygen in the near future which should put a stop to problems like this.

Nick.

It could be an issue with whitespace being preserved from the DITA to FM to RH conversion.

Since I'm not sure what impact the structured part of it has, I would suggest testing by creating an unstructured FM doc, linking that to a new test RH project and see what the WebHelp looks like. If the spacing is fine, that may indicate something with structure; I would try again with a test structured FM file to narrow that down. If a simple test structure doc works fine, then it's got to be something in your FM doc that's not mapping correctly.

Unstructured looks fine - its when I've created a new structured doc that the problem seems to appear.

Hmm, I don't have any experience with FM structured docs & how they come into RH. You may want to cast a feeler over in the FM Structure forum for some leads. It must have something to do with the instructions that govern formatting - but I don't know enough to point you in the right direction.
