Question

Looing for a good process to track images for reuse

We use a lot of images. Many of them can be used in multiple topics for different reasons. Is there a way to keep track of previously generated images for future use. We currently recreate images for diffrent topics because we don't have a method to find the original and reuse it. We are using RoboHelp 2019.0.12

Oh and I forgot that in 2019 New you can right-click on an image in a topic and select "Locate in Contents Panel". Perhaps that can help you at least with quick navigation from a known topic.

You could try the Images report and see if that helps.

Otherwise I can only suggest good naming and filing conventions.

Hi,

This is not exactly a tip for tracking them, but if you import them by reference instead of embedding them in the document,

the images stay where they are, thereby making it unnecessary to track them. You can also generate a list of illustrations and use them to see in which documents certain illustrations were used. I don't know whether this solves your problem though. Regards,  Carel.

Thank you for your quick response. I don't think the referencing method
will work.
In most cases we show the images in drop down text boxes. It appears that I
would have to put the link in the drop down box and when I click the link
it opens in a separate window. I tried all the settings but was not able to
change it to open within the drop down box.

If I am doing this wrong please let me know.

Thanks again,
Larry

Hi Larry,

I was doing something wrong. I wasn't paying attention and thought you were talking about FrameMaker instead of RoboHelp. Sorry for that. I briefly looked through the FrameMaker forum and then switched to the RoboHelp forum, but when I replied to your question I had forgotten I was in the RH forum.

Regards,

Carel.
