Matching Flash Help to Website

Hi, we're using Robohelp FlashHelp (Tech Authoring Suite) for a large FrameMaker document and I'm wondering what's the best way (if possible) to link the company's website CSS to the FlashHelp project so that the file resembles the website style, which we are happy with. I know a certain amount about CSSs but am no expert. Any tips most welcome. Thanks, Simon

Hi all

Simon, if you are going to get very deep in Skin Editing for FlashHelp, you will need a couple of things.

1. Knowledge of Adobe Flash (not for the weak of heart or a casual user)
2. The FlashHelp Skins Development Kit (This kit is automatically installed when you installed RoboHelp. You just need to know where to find it. Look where RoboHelp has been installed. That is normally C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 7\FlashHelp SDK

Let me add also that you can edit certain aspects of the skin, such as the height of the toolbar, in the XML file that comes with the skin (it has a file extension like .fhs).

Simon, please forgive me for sticking my big nose in. Skin files are in .fla format and can be edited in Adobe Flash. Go here for information about creating your own skins. Rather than start with a template provided with RH, I usually pick a skin I like from the gallery and then tweak it to look the way I want.

Thanks Rick. I'm also thinking I might just update the manual's chapter .css files so they mirror the formatting in the website .css. Either way, thanks for the tip, Simon

PS: would you happen to know what needs to be done to design a new skin and what kind of file a skin is? Cheers.

Hi Simon

Just copy the desired .CSS file to your project folder. (If you aren't sure where your project folder is, a simple way to get there rapidly is to edit the properties of any topic, then click the File tab followed by the "Open Folder" button.)

After you copy the .CSS file, select all your topics in the Topic List, right-click and edit the Properties. Then choose the Appearance tab and choose the style sheet.

Note that this will only affect your topic content. It will do nothing with the skin elements.

Cheers... Rick
