Question

Migrating from V3 to V6

Hi Guys,
I'm currently looking into what's involved in upgrading from RoboHelp V3 to V6 - are there any guides/doco out there? I'm pretty new to Robohelp, but I see there is a dB assigned in the Configuration manger (currently using MS Access) and the folders where the content is kept. The content is comprised of ~10,000 files in ~500 folders.
We'd be looking at moving it over to SQL server and possibly looking at a dual server configuration for redundancy.
Anyone with experience in moving off such an old version?
Is there much change with the client?
Thanks for any help,
Cam.

buckerooni,

Just about completed (after 7 months of phone calls with Adobe) a conversion from X3 clients & server. Clients upgrade - smooth sailing. Server upgrade - there is a problem with the licensing.
An upgrade from pre-X5 to 6 requires an X4 key which we never received or used. Adobe does not have the ability to generate an X4 key due to eHelp, Macromedia, Adobe buyout & loss of technical information. If you purchase an upgrade, you are stuck in limbo with Adobe being transferred from department to department (around the globe?) for an eternity (or at least it feels like it).
I don't wish to publish the person's contact info online, but send me a private message or call with your contact info, and I'll hook you up. This person (yes at Adobe - let's be legitimate here) can "do what it takes" to get you running.

Side: I've got 1 outstanding issue just discovered today. Built new server from scratch Win Server 2003 SP2 and getting "Server does not support any authentication method." error. Strange - can authenticate for Source Code Control just fine???

OK, I only have the configuration manager on under the configuration manager help section '3.00.022 Copyright 2001-2002 eHelp Corporation'. I'll confirm with one of the authors about the client, but it sounds like X3...good news!

Hi Rick,

Indeed Version 3 circa 2002 ! Hence why I was wondering if there was a migration path. Otherwise I'd like to know what is required to get the projects into V6.

Cheers,

cam.

Hi Cam. Version 3 circa 2002 sounds like X3 to me. Version 3 would have been way back in the midst of time when Rick was just a sorcerer's apprentice . The Your Help > About menu item should confirm this. If indeed it is X3 you can follow RIck's excellent advice.

Hi Cam

Is there much change with the client?

Are you certain you are using version 3 and not "X3"? 3 would be terribly old indeed, but one never knows. If it's X3, odds are that you will simply open your projects in version 6 and off you go with minimal fuss.

Cheers... Rick
