Must *.fpj file be checked out exclusive?

RH9, RH9 Server, WebHelp Pro, TFS source control

We are two authors working on a project. When one of us attempts to create a project, TFS blocks it saying that the project .fpj file must be checked out exclusive in order to create a topic.

Of course we can solve the problem by one of us checking it in so the other can create a topic. But should this really be necessary?

Are you able to create a merged TOC in RH9? I can’t make it work.

I have TOC 1 and TOC 2. In TOC 1 I have selected the top-level book and inserted the TOC placeholder pointing to TOC 2.

When I generate WebHelp, I select TOC 1 as the TOC (in the wizard, I am only given the choice between TOC 1 and TOC 2, not both together).

When I generate, the result is TOC 1 ONLY.

What am I missing?

That's exacly the way I do it, I have a project with eightteen TOC's and it works fine. The result in Robo looks something like this:

Is there a conditional build tag that can be causing this?

Does TOC 2 point to any topics or is it empty/filled with empty books?

Sorry, I meant "create a new topic" not "create a project".

It appears that the same restriction also applies to the project .hhc file. This can't be the way it isupposed to work -- can it?

Hi,

The *.fpj files are located in each folder in the project. If you add a topic, RoboHelp adds a link to the topic in the .fpj file so it knows which topics are part of the project. The same goes for the .hhc, which holds the TOC. If you want to modify the file, you need to check it out. I don't think RoboHelp supports multiple check out, but I may be wrong.

If the TOC is a problem, you can create multiple TOC's in the project and merge them in the default TOC. When you check out one of the TOCs, the other can continue working with the other TOC's. Nothing to do about the .fpj.
