My .chm file doubled in size

RoboHelp HTML X5.0.2, build 801:

My large HTML Help project was being prepared for a new release of the product it documents.

A co-worker, who created the project and taught me RoboHelp, attempted to repair a couple of Framesets within the project, which had become corrupted. The links that she had placed in the Framesets appeared only as regular text.

During various attempts at manual repair of these links, RoboHelp crashed twice. (Co-worker's attempts at repair did involve editing the 2 Framesets' HTML in the TrueCode view.) No apparent damage to project after it was restarted following crashes.

I deleted the non-working Framesets and made new means of navigation to the related Topics, simply by means of new Index and Table of Contents entries.

The next time I compiled HTML Help, the .chm file produced had roughly doubled in size.

We did not notice at first that this had occurred, since the finished .chm file WORKED correctly. All links within the project (and a couple to outside URLs) were fine.

This larger file is okay for inclusion on the installer CD of our product, but unacceptable for the download option we offer our customers.

Any thoughts on cause, and especially repair?

Hello Lew,

I have read your post and I am not sure what could be the cause of the large file size. However, I would recommend that you Select the "Optimize CHM File Size" check box. The steps below will assist you to check this option:

1. Open RoboHelp in the authoring mode.
2. Click File>Generate Primary Layout (HTML Help)
3.From the HTML Options window, check Optimize CHM File.

Hope this resolves the problem.
