Question

Opening project from Version Control -- need more efficient navigation path

Environment

Visual Studio Professional 2010

RoboHelp 11

When we open a project from Version Control (in Team Foundation Server), we perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider
  2. Connect to a TFS Server
  3. Choose the folder in TFS, which requires 6-7 clicks through the folder tree.

Is there a way in RoboHelp to 'remember' the location of the XPJ in Source Control so that we don't have to repeat the eight clicks each time?

Thanks.

Carol

I believe we were having the same issue....all of our content was migrated to TFS by our TFS admin.

It seems that if you instead add your project to TFS from within your RoboHelp project (File > Version Control > Add to Version Control), the next time you open your RoboHelp project, it will remember the integration with TFS and you will not have to go through the process of opening the project from TFS.

Hope this helps.

I believe the process you described for adding to version control is the recommended approach!

If you add it that way, RoboHelp only adds the files that are supposed to be in the version control. There are certain files in a RoboHelp project that should not be in version control.

If you're using TFS, I find this to be the easiest way: In Team Explorer, map the project/folder to your hard drive (you can even map to MyRoboHelpProject). Then simply open the folder in explorer and double click the XPJ. RH will also list the project in the recently opened project section.

Kind regards,

Willam

Hi there

You might try adding the folder to the "My Places".

In RoboHelp, click File > Open and browse to the folder. Then from the RoboHelp dialog, click the Tools drop-down as shown below and choose "Add to My Places"..

Once you have added it, you then should see an icon in that left panel you may click to just "go there".

Hopefully that will work the way you want... Rick

Good morning, Rick.

I think that your method works only if you open the project from a local folder, not for opening the project from Version Control.

The project is stored on a Team Foundation Server  and is mapped to a local workspace. If we open the project locally, we are then not working from Version Control.

If you look closely at the image of the open project dialog, you will notice an option 'Open project from version control' right in Rick's image. That may be what you're looking for.

Kind regards,

Willam
