Optimizing Images for Web

Hello,

I assume most of you compress your images for webhelp. So I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for software to optimize images for the web?

PhotoShop has a nice feature, Save for Web, but I don't have PhotoShop and work and need a cheaper alternative. I've used JPEG Imager, and don't like it.

A very inexpensive app is Jasc Paint Shop Pro, which has a lot of features like Photoshop's -- layers, transparencies, advanced image editing tools,. and so on. And it can read any format known to man, I believe. Same for output.

Now called Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo. They are targeting the home photographer more with this product now (red-eye reduction, blemish removers, teeth whiteners, etc), although it still contains all the image editing stuff it used to.

(And I was personally horrified by a recent advertising flyer with one of their latest photo tools - Thinify (tm). I so wish I was joking...)

Try The GIMP for Windows. Their compression options leave Photoshop in the bit bucket. The GIMP is available at no charge under the GNU General Public License.

(PM me at this forum for a quick lesson on using their "save as" features.)
