PDF generation fails: 'The path argument must be of type string'

I have a RoboHelp project where I cannot successfully generate a PDF output. In the logs, I get the following error:

'The "path" argument must be of type string. Received type boolean (false).

Any idea what is causing this error?

I'm having the same problem as scottg36867683.

My PDF generation fails and I get the same message,

'Error: The 'path' argument must be of type string. Received type boolean (false)'
'Error: Failed to generate pdf version. Check log for more details.'

I'm on RH 2022.3.93 and Java is OpenJRE 11.

Was there a solution for this issue?

I believe you may have the wrong version of Java. If I have read things correctly, Java 11 is a development version. You need the runtime version. See RH2022 PDF Output (grainge.org)

When I view the log for the PDF failed generation, the first line of the log says, 'Java found.'

You didn't say whether you had checked the Java version but on reflection I'm not sure that is the issue, I think it would be a clearer warning.

You are saying that message is what appears in the logs but the message says to see the logs. The warning is not the full log. After generating I think there is a link to the full log.

You haven't said which version of RoboHelp you are using. Please always start a thread with this information.

    • Please go to Help > About and include the full version number.
    • If you are using 2019 also state whether it is 2019 Classic or 2019 New UI.

If you are using one of the new UI versions, see RH2022 PDF Output (grainge.org) and confirm you have installed Java as indicated there.
