Question

PDF output for merged projects in RH 2020

Hi,

I have 3 individual projects that I have merged in a parent project. The Responsive HTML output is working fine, however there is no option to merge TOCs of child projects in the Book TOC. This feature is important because going back to Word and manually merging these projects and then creating a PDF defeats the purpose of single sourcing.

Is there a different solution to this that I am missing? Please help!

@Vivek Kumar Does preserve links between child projects?

Merge PDF feature is there in RoboHelp but slightly different from MergeHelp for Frameless or HTML5.

    • Have any project as the main project
    • Include the PDF generated from the other projects in the main project TOC
    • In the Advanced tab for PDF preset of the main project make sure "Merge PDFs included in the TOC" is selected
    • Generate the PDF

    Hope this helps.

Thanks @KarenMinOR, @Peter Grainge for the responses. Yes, I do have Acrobat, but the issue is with the links between child projects. Wish Adobe comes up with a feature to create merged output in PDF!

@Peter Grainge thank you so much for your website which I follow to find solutions to almost everything in RH 🙂

You could also do something similar in Word if you don't have Acrobat. However, in both scenarios there's a catch. In any one document, links between topics in the source project will survive. However, if a topic in Project 1 links to a topic in Project 2, that will not survive the trip to PDF or Word. In Word you could recreate it but if there are lots of such links, it's a bit less practical.

Do you have a license for Acrobat? If so, you could (theoretically) build the three PDFs separately from the child projects and then merge them in Acrobat. Could that possibly work for you?

You can only merge online help and it has never in RoboHelp's history been possible to merge any print output.
