PDF Robohelp Page Layouts Covers

Sadly, I have several questions.

  1. I found the instructions for adding a cover page. However my cover isn’t in the Front Matter drop-down (see attached image) or I don’t know how to make it an option. When I compile my PDF, a blank page appears not a cover page.
  2. I have pages that begin with a “chapter” layout then switches to the “common” layout but I want the 1st page to have the common layout too. How do I apply a Page Template not a Topic Template. 
  3. Is it an issue to use a page template and a topic template?

    You say “I found the instructions for adding a cover page” but you don’t say which instructions. Have you looked at my site, in particular https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp_Tour/rh2022/outputs/outputs_pdf.htm and https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp_Tour/rh2022/outputs/pdf_templates.htm.

    The cover page is added in the Template.

    Double click that or click Edit in the About RoboHelp sample project and you will see the cover page that appears when you generate that output.

    Topic templates are for online outputs and Page templates are for print, Word or PDF. The whole point is that the fonts etc you have for online are likely not suitable for print, thus you define them separately.

    Follow the links above and look at the About RoboHelp sample project, that should help you figure it out.

    Thanks for the clarification on page templates and topic templates.
    Regarding the cover page, I have 2 pages. I renamed the “FrontCover” Template to “FrontCoverX”. After posting, I reverted to the original name. Now the cover appears.

    That sounds like you didn’t change the name in the Cover page setting.
