Question

poor help file display

Hi, Not sure if this is even the place for this question, but thought I'd give it a try. I have several help projects (created with RH x4.1) installed at client sites and they complain that the help neither displays well nor prints well; the content is not clear and is not easy to read. The description I get is as if you photo copied succeeding generations of a given printed page so that the sharpness degrades. It looks fine here, but is there a setting I can check that may affect how the installed help will look? Is there a question I should be asking the client about their settings?

Thanks. David.

Hi Craig,
Found out that indeed, the clients viewing their help via CITRIX.

Question: When you say "256 colour pallet has not been used," do you mean by me, who created the help?

Don't know how relevant this is but the Windows Clear Type function works well on some typefaces but screws up others. (Clear Type is technically a misnomer - it actually diffuses the display to make it more readable on LCD screens). If your client has Clear Type turned on either in the desktop settings or in IE7, they might get this effect depending on what typeface you are using.

David,

How does the help look when viewed on you PC?
What flavour of help are you generating?

The only time that I've noticed a big change in quality is when help is viewed over citrix or teminal services and the 256 colour pallet has not been used. How are your users (the ones complaining), viewing the help?

Kind Regards
Craig

Hi Craig, Thanks for the reply. I'm compiling RH in Winhelp 4 as the primary layout. The compiled help looks fine on my P.C. I'll ask the account managers about how the clients are viewing the help.
