Predictive search not working on IE 11 with any Responsive HTML5 layout

I'm using RoboHelp 2017 (13.0.2.334) to generate a responsive HTML5 help file using the Indigo layout. The predictive search feature works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, but not in IE 11. When I search on any term in IE 11, I get a spinner, but no results. Searching the same project in the other browsers generates instant results.

I'm having the same issue running the project from my hard drive and from our application server.

I've read several discussions on similar topics and tried some of the suggested solutions, but with the same results.

  • I selected a layout from the gallery and named it Indigo2, then generated the project. Search worked on Chrome, Edge, & Firefox, but not IE11.
  • I tried generating one of the sample projects using the Indigo layout from the gallery. Search worked on Chrome, Edge, & Firefox, but not IE11.
  • I also tried generating one of the sample projects using the Charcoal_Grey layout -- which doesn't have the predictive search. The regular search worked on Chrome, Edge, & Firefox, but not IE11.

I have just tested a couple of projects with Indigo and they are working fine in IE11. You have used the Gallery button in the output configuration, which gets the fixed version so that should not be the issue.

Everything is pointing to the installation of IE11 here. Have you tried it on machines other than yours? In particular, can you try it outside your network? I am wondering if your IT people have done something with the IE11 settings.

Try the RoboHelp Tour using IE11. I just tried with IE11 and the search is working there, albeit in Azure Blue.

Hi Peter,

I tried your RoboHelp Tour in IE11, and the search did work. I then tried logging into one of our applications without going through our network and opened the help which was generated with the Indigo layout. The search is working there, so I think you're possibly right about our IT people having done something with the IE11 settings. At any rate, it looks like this is an internal issue, not one that will affect our clients.

Not sure I agree. You said at the beginning that you had tried the help from you hard drive and it did not work. Because nothing worked, it seemed logical it had to be IE11. However, you are now saying that some help works and other help does not. If it was an IE11 issue, I would expect to always work or always fail.

Am I right in thinking that the time it fails is only when you go through the network? That sounds more like wherever the help is hosted might not be configured as a web server. Speak to your IT people to check that out.
