We have version X5.0.2, Build 801, and are having problems with the printed documentation (for one project only). It runs but only contains four out of the 15 sections (approximately 20 topics out of 50). Multiple users have tried it and it seems to stop at the same point. The process completes, but doesn't contain all the topics. Any suggestions? The project was initially created in Word 2003, and we have even re-created the project to see if maybe the file was corrupt.

Try changing the image setting in the wizard from embedded to linked and see if they then appear. If they do, note they will be in a sub-folder to the document. In Word, you can then convert them to embedded. How is in Print Issues on my site.

Had the same problem myself today and that worked.

Use the menu (bottom right) to mark the Best Answer or Highlight particularly useful replies. Found the answer elsewhere? Share it here.

It worked! I was able to get the wizard on the screen long enough to run the Printed Documentation and clicking the "Link..." option for the images. The finished product looks great!

The only problem left is preventing the Printed Documentation Wizard from closing RoboHelp. The wizard opens for a few seconds then RH completely closes. It's only on this one project and this project has been re-created. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?

Have you by chance tried creating a totally fresh Printed Documentation layout?

To do this, try right-clicking your Single Source Layouts folder and choosing New Layout...

Sometimes creating a new layout can help otherwise odd behavior when generating.

Peter is referring to the second page of the Printed Documentation singel source layout wizard. Here is where you specify the actual topics that will be included in the document. You move topics from the TOC layout into the Chapter layout. What Peter was referring to was the fact that just because we have a topic added to the TOC does not necessaryily mean it is in the Chapter layout.

Instead of including files individually, you can simply click the double left arrow (to clear the right pane) and then click the double right arrow (to populate the right pane with all topics).

After my last post, I did go in and try it again and clicked the double arrow to have all topics appear. When the Printed Documentation process finished I had all the topics in there. ;)

But now, there are no images appearing in the finished Print Documentation file - only red X's. Any idea of why this is happening? Also, a majority of the time when the Print Layout Wizard opens it automatically closes RH. It's a hit or miss whether the wizard and RH will stay open long enough to run the Print Documentation. (Both users have 2GB RAM each.)

Hope Colum won't mind me jumping in here. Before you do that, are all the topics in the print layout. It's a common cause of this problem that because those topics are in the project and the online TOC, it is thought that they are automatically in the print layout. Maybe those topics were added after the print layout was first generated. If so, they need to be added to the print layout as well.

pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "are all the topics in the print layout?"

You the project was "initially" created in Word 2003. What version of word are you using now? If it is the same version, try producing the output using half the topics. If that generates OK, try generating using half of the remainder, etc until your generation fails. Then generate half the topics that failed and repeat until you have identified what is causing the generation to choke. Then post back.
