Printed documentation freezes on index

When I start generating printed documentation in RoboHelp X5 (in combination with Word 2000), everything goes well until RoboHelp starts processing the Index. From that moment on, nothing happens anymore and when I check the Task Manager Microsoft Word is not responding.

Anyone a solution for this issue? Thank you.

Yes, highlight the index in the print layout and delete it!

I have the same problems on an admittedly oversized project (>1000 pages). I have given up trying to genearate printed documentation on my laptop. The task is reserved for my big horsepower desktop machine. I started it last night and it was still claiming to be working this morning. I had to kill it.

Part of the problem is that our index is out of control. I have been removing keywords but with fear and trepidation as we have have over 25 files of source material. When I delete a keywork that is tagged in multiple files, RoboHelp will plow throuhg the files opening them as it sees fit. The fear is that MS Word will get the confused with the rft-doc files and corrupt the project. The only solution is to restore from backup and reload.

My question: Is it possible to generate printed documentation while skipping the index???

Welcome to the forum.

Task Manager will often report that Word is not responding when it is working. Look under Performance and see the activity, then look under Processes and click CPU to see what is active. Is it Word?

Maybe allow some more time? You don't say for how long it hangs. Also what template are you using for the output?

It has been 3 hours hanging now, im afraid im not sure what my template is, I have done all the things you said in your previous message and it is all as you have described in task manager, any suggestions?

Be aware that the reference to which template is no more than an educated guess. Many problems arise with home brewed templates. That is not to say that they are poor, just that they do not place nicely with RH.

Personally after three hours I would kill the process.

Do you have any idea how big the document should be?

The template you have used will be shown in the last page of the wizard. Try both Style Mapping and just using Project Styles.

Let us know how that goes.
