Questions about Java - Please advise

Hi all

I would like your opinions on the following:

  • Is there now a cost for Java Runtime Environment 8 or later (64-bit)?
  • If there is a cost, and I used OpenJDK 8 or later instead, would that impact the look and layout of my existing PDF output?

Thank you.

Michelle

According to the Oracle site (https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/jdk-faqs.html) the JRE 8 version is still free for individuals and companies to use (see https://www.oracle.com/downloads/licenses/javase-license1.html). I suspect because RH's use of Java 8 to generate PDFs is considered an "authorized use" of the product.
I suggest you contact the RH folks for any clarification - see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.
