Question

Renaming file name does not update index link

I'm doing some housecleaning of some RoboHelp X5 files and removing illegal characters that RoboHelp allowed, such as parentheses, hyphens, and ampersands. I did not change the titles of the files, only the file name.

When I publish to RoboEngine, the topics show up in the index, but clicking on the link produces an error.

When I simply generate it without publishing it, the WebPro folder has the structure, but when I look in the index, the links do work.

Is there an extra step with publishing to RoboEngine that I'm not aware of? I'm not that savvy server-side. Unfortunately, the techs assigned to keeping RoboEngine are pretty new to it as well.

Hi Kevin. This is just a hunch but perhaps there are some file left behind on the server from before you removed the characters. Try getting your server people to remove all the files on the server and try the publish again. There is certainly new reason why the output should work in your output and not on the server.

Sorry, I meant to say that we did delete the WebHelp output before republishing.

In any case, I checked the project this morning, and the index links work fine. We speculated that perhaps the nightly processes would fix the links. So far, that seems to be the case.

Thanks.
