Responsive HTML5 and accessibility

Using the WAVE accessiblity evaluation tool, it looks like the Responsive HTML5 layouts are missing alternative text. What files do I need to edit in these layouts to make them meet accessibility standards?

You can add the alt attibute to images in the .slp pages of the layout (In Project Set-up pod.)

Hi Willam,

Can you exand on your response? The images that are of particular nuisance are the images in the table of contents, which appear to be generated by javascript. To these untrained eyes, it does not appear that alt text can be added via the slp files of the layout. It appears that either that a javascript file or xml file needs to be revised to include the alt text for the images. For reference, I am referring to the images in the layout labeled TOCTreeCloseBook, TOCTreeOpenBook, TOCTreeOpenBookSelected, etc. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There are several locations where you can add accessibility text, based on the content. For most images in RH11 Responsive HTML5 and Multiscreen HTML5, the images are inserted in the HTML of the layout, the .slp pages. You can open those and add your own accessibility text there. For the Table of Contents the images are set in the toctree.js and tocnode.js files where the HTML is being build. If you open the files in notepad and search for '<img', you will find where the HTML is generated and you add the ALT text there.

For RH 2015 Responsive HTML5, the images are all added as background images through the CSS so you won't need to specify an ALT text.
