Rh 2017 - Can we hide a book and its topics in the ToC?

I am having a responsive html5 output. Can we include a book in the ToC, add topics to the book and then hide the book and its topic?

One way is apply author comments or similar conditional tag to the book and the topics so that they hide from the output. Is there any other way?

Also, if I have 5 new topics in the project manager and I have hidden them from search, they are not part of toc but they are context sensitive topics. This is intentional.

If the context sensitive help call pulls the correct topic and token will it still launch the right topic? even if it is not in the toc...but it is in the project?

Tagging something in the TOC does not exclude it from the build.

In Classic all topics go in the build unless tagged out at topic level regardless of whether they are in the TOC.
