Question

RH 2020 - How do I get a glossary into my printed output?

I'm re-trialing RH 2020, Update 7.

How do I add a glossary into my printed output? There's something missing or a disconnect in information:

RoboHelp's own Help file here https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/using/glossary.html states:

  • In the Output Presets panel, select your desired output preset from the given options. You can choose from output presets options such as Responsive HTML5, Mobile App, Frameless, eBook, and more.
  • Select the Content tab.
  • In the Glossary field, select your desired glossary file from the drop-down list.

However, there is no such Glossary field in the output preset:

What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

I did a quick test and for some reason the glossary section heading uses to name of the glossary file rather than "Glossary" as defined in Labels. So 'core' in your case I think.

A fresh project produced bold glossary terms for me, in case that helps with troublesehooting.

Thanks Amebr. The main heading isn't the problem. The issue I'm struggling with are the non-bolded glossary terms in my converted project in Word generated output.

I looked in a sample project and compared it with my converted project. The sample project has a p.book-glo-term paragraph style (with a fair number of other styles).

For some reason, my project has none of those styles. Both projects are using the book master page.

Create brand new project and then copy book.css from there. Adobe cannot update that file as it could affect customisations made by a user.

Adobe RoboHelp ships with a Book master page that is linked to book.css.

Thanks Peter.

Your site says, "Adobe RoboHelp ships with a Book master page that is linked to book.css. "

But I think it's important to note that RH does not include this master page automatically in projects converted from old versions... at least I don't have that master page in my project. I assume I have to import it into my project from somewhere.

So, following what you said here about the sample project being of help, I noticed that it does have the Book.htt file. But when I right-click on my Master Pages area in RoboHelp and try to import that into my project, I get an Application Error message. But as seems to be typical to RH and many modern applications nowadays that try to offer clean, readable messages, the error is not well explained to know what caused it or how to resolve it:

If I choose Help | Restart RoboHelp the project reopens. But if I then try to import it again, I get the same message.

Anyway, to get around this, I closed everything down, went to My RoboHelp Projects\Adobe RoboHelp 2020\Samples\About RoboHelp\contents\assets folder and copied those css and masterpages folders into my projects assets folder restarted my project. and now it looks like I have access to them.

So, back in my glossary Output Preset, I apply the Book master page and regenerate:

Still, I have no headings for the glossary, though at least I am getting a header and footer with page numbers now.

Did you customise book.css?

In Assets. Attach it to the master page in the master page's topic properties.

The About RoboHelp sample project explains a lot of the workings of 2020 as does the RoboHelp Tour on my site. Either would merit a read through.

Create a Book TOC. RH2020 The Table of Contents (grainge.org)

Click the Add Back Matter icon and select Glossary Page.

Hi Peter. Thank you! That did the trick.

However, out of the box, with no template applied, I'm noticing that the glossary terms are coming across as plain Normal text without any heading styling:

Shouldn't these have some sort of heading styling out of the box? How can I enable this?

Look in book.css and make sure that is included in a master page that gets applied when you generate.
