RH 2022 PDF Templates - all front matter topics using same layout?

Hi all,

I am trying to update my projects to RH 2022. For my PDF output, I have several front matter topics defined, like Front Page, Copyright, Change History, TOC. In RH 2022, the templates seem to work quite different. I can find a setting to define separate page layouts for the Front Page and the TOC, but not for any further topics in my front matter section. Can this be achieved in some way?

What I actually want is Header 1 / no footer for my Front Page, Header 2 / no footer for Copyright, Change History and TOC and Header 2 / footer for the rest of my document.

Having Copyright and Change History in the front matter folder seems to have the effect that no template at all is applied, so they don't have a header. If I put them out of the front matter folder, the sorting sequence of my document is no longer correct.

Also, is it possible to only define the look and feel (i.e. header and footer) of the front page without having to define its content as well? This would enable me to use one PDF template for all my outputs. As far as I can see, I have to also define the content of the Cover Page, so I would need a PDF template for each ouptut separately. Am I missing something here?

Thanks!

Karin

    Correct answer Peter Grainge

I am advised that Common should apply to any content not already defined in the Page Layout section, as I thought.

This will be fixed in an update.

Are these topics that are unique to the Front Matter? If they are then adding the logo to them does seem to be the answer.

If they are not, then a duplicate could work around the issue.

Maybe Adobe thought users would not want those to have a layout applied. My thinking is some users will and some will not so it should be an option.

I will ask if it could be a feature request for an update.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply and your suggestions. As for the Front Matter Topics: I added my logo also to the Common layout, but as far as I can see, no page layout at all is used for Front Matter Topics. Maybe you will have time to test this sometimes later. Currently, I can find no way to have my logo applied to my Front Matter Topics except to maybe directly include it in the topic itself.

    Best regards

    Karin

Without testing I am not sure if everything in the Front Matter of the TOC will have TOC page layout or only the TOC has that and all other items have the Common page layout. I think the latter.

The cover page should no longer be in Front Matter, that comes from the FrontCover page layout.

The cover page will be unique to each project as it does have to include the cover content. You can export and import the whole template but not individual layouts. However, you can cheat that.

Right click and select Show in Explorer. There you can copy it across. Depending on the CSS in your template Stylesheets, that might need a tweak or two. I'm guessing though they are common in your projects.

Just a short remark regarding the copying of page layouts around templates: another solution would be to create the new page layout in each template and then copy & paste the complete source code.
