Question

RH2017 - single source or copy/paste

Hello,

We have a requirement where for product A, we have a standalone responsive html5 help.

The same will be integrated in the help of product AB.

What is the best approach here?

Should we have a standalone help source for product A? and copy/paste the files in the help source of product AB?

or

Should we have a combined product AB help source and then apply conditions and generate/pull the desired output?

Does copy/pasting files manually from one folder to another create any issues in the long run when content grows?

What should be the best approach?

Two projects will mean that every time something common changes you have to change it in two places. Quite apart from duplicating the work, that is prone to error. RoboHelp enables you to single source different outputs. You tag the content to control what is in each output.

You set up tags for content you don't want in Output 1 and tags for content you don't want in Output 2, then apply a build expression in each output to exclude unwanted content.

See How to use same Source Files for New Versions of Product (Content Repurpose for future product releases)?
