RH2022 upgrade breaks links between child projects in mergedHelp.

Apologies if this question has already been posted; I could not find it. We recently upgraded from RH2015 to RH2022.  We used Webhelp in RH2015 and are now using Responsive HTML5 in RH2022. In our merged help, we have 33 child projects, each with dozens (or hundreds) of topics. Some of these topics have links to topics that live in other child projects.  For example, Membership and References are each child projects.  A topic in Membership may contain a link to a topic in References.  (In our case, we have hundreds of these links scattered throughout our 33 projects. Our help has been in existence for over 20 years.)

Since upgrading to RH2022, all of these links are broken.  I have seen references, including on Peter Grainge's site, that "...in the new UI versions of RoboHelp, cross project links are not supported."  I may be in denial, because it would be disastrous for us if we had hundreds of broken links scattered throughout our help files, but I'm hoping this refers to something other than our situation as described in the first paragraph.

Can someone please clarify if in fact all of our links should be broken in the new GUI of RH2022?  And if this functionality was removed in the new version, what replaces it?

Thank you for your help.

Correct answer Peter Grainge

Another thought is that when RoboHelp upgrades a project, it puts it in a new folder with a slightly different name. Unless you have put all the projects within a folder with the original names and ensured the structure is what you had before, then the paths will be wrong.

I'll await your findings.

I did as you suggested and checked my folder and path names. There were some slight discrepancies between what we used for RH2015 and what appeared in RH2022.  Thank you for your help. We are very relieved to know that our numerous links between merged projects are not broken!

Glad it worked and wasn't the major problem you feared.

Please use the photo icon to insert images within the post. Seeing an image inline with the text makes it easier for anyone answering or viewing the post. Having now seen that, I see you have parent child links. You will see on my site I advise they are best avoided, I explain how to structure things to avoid that. However that's for another day.

Are the broken links parent/child links or between child projects or both? In Code view are the links the same in Classic and the new UI?

I need to clarify that section, it relates to CHMs. Upgrading should not break existing links. Is your structure as described on my site.

Take a look at one of the links and check the path is valid in the output.

Post back. I will look at your post again later.
