RoboHeadache

I have a RoboHelp HTML (v 7) project (it's big) that I need to update. When I open it, the cursor keeps changing from an hourglass to an arrow and doesn't stop. It's acting like a Word doc when it gets corrupted and takes forever to load.

I am ready to throw my computer out the window, but I don't think that would be productive, so I'm contacting all of you first...

Thanks.

I'm assuming you have tried to open another project, or a sample project, and that was ok.

If this is true, either you deleted / renamed the project's .cpd file so RH could rebuild it (that's what it looks like as it rebuilds) , or, you really need to do that.

In the project directory, delete the file that ends in .cpd. YOu can rename it if that makes you feel better, but this is a fairly safe process.

Then open the project, and let it finish the rebuild. On a large project, this could take some time.

Good luck.

If you think you had a headache, I'd hate to be the person walking beneath your window had you decided to defenestrate your computer...

aw shucks. no big deal, really - I find that a world of ills is hinged on the regularly failing health of this file, which is really an MS Access database. As a matter of fact, there are so many situations in which this file is the source of the problem that RH8 offers an option to rebuild the file automatically with every project startup. I am looking forward to getting RH8 for that reason alone! Everything else is gravy.

You are a genius and have my undying gratitude. I never would have known to try that. It worked much better than throwing my computer out the window.

Thank you!!!!
