Question

RoboHELP 7 runs very slowly

I'm new to RoboHELP and am using the latest version (7).
I'm creating HTML Help. I'm finding that the program runs very slowly, taking a very long time to switch from topic to topic in the Project Manager. This does not seem to be a memory issue, since I have 2GB, and my hard drive is not full. Does anyone else have this problem? Or does anyone have any answers or ideas to speed things up?
Thanks!

I tried all the steps about the fonts, above, and it didn't work. Using RoboHelp 7, as I was typing new content in a topic, there would be a 10 to 12 second delay between typing and the text displaying. Turns out that some of the services for other applications running in the background were conflicting with RoboHelp. I disabled them and it works fine.

GinaL, do you remember which background applications were causing a problem? I'm looking for any clues that would help with performance issues.

    Thx,

I don't think I can offer much else either. It sounds like problems with the server/network rather than any RH specific issue. Sorry.

Nope, it is the only thing on the Server. We've had all sorts of problems publishing to server as well as we get errors and we resorted to a manual publishing solution. We can't figure it out and Adobe doesn't seem to know what the problem could be either.

Is there some other traffic on your RH Server that is causing the issue. Maybe time to speak to your network administrator.

Apologies, didn't realise that was not a webhelp pro setting. I don't use RH Server and we don't see too many problems with it here so I have nothing else to add.

I couldn't see it because that only applies to Web Help, not Web Help Pro which I am using. Does that imply that if using Web Help Pro that the site is automatically optimized for the intranet as I am publishing to RoboHelp 7 Server?

Peter is referring to the third page of the Webhelp Single Source Layout wizard. There it has an "Optimise speed for" option called "Local PC or Intranet".

Sorry Peter, I can't seem to see this setting. Maybe I'm not looking in right spots. Are you referring to the publishing wizard, or would this be found under Tools?

In the wizard try using the Local PC / Intranet setting.

When everyone talks about RoboHelp speeding up by eliminating fonts, that just applies to the speed of the software as far as opening files, publishing, etc. right??? While the software does run slow for me and this may solve that problem, my main concern is that I am publishing to RoboHelp 7 Server, and my online help is slow for my users. Often when opening a TOC book, it either takes several seconds, or never opens at all (and sometimes crashes). How do I improve the online performance? Our server is more than adequate based on the requirements and we only have about 20 users online at any given time.
