RoboHelp 8 Crashes when applying Conditional Build Tags

Hi Peter,

When I apply conditional tags, RoboHelp crashes.

History: A large project with several conditional tags - worked fine in RH6. When upgraded to RH8 the conditional tags freezes the webhelp generation with msvrc80.dll error. Works fine in RH8 without applying conditional tags, but I HAVE to apply the tags. All other projects have no problem with conditional tags - just this one crashes.

Read all (well, almost all) your suggestions on this. Incorrect table format seems to be the cluprit. What do you suggest? How do I locate the illformed table? It is a large project.

I looked at your snippet on this. My project:

(a) contains conditional tags

(b) does not seem to have any <td_null> tags.

I have to urgently release this with the conditions tags - what are my options now? The size of the zipped project is 63 MB.

I found a simple and effective solution for RoboHelp crashes when using Conditional build tags; even though I am using RoboHelp 10 I would imagine this fix would apply to previous versions. Anytime I try to generate a layout using one or more conditional build tags the program crashes during "updating pages". This issue has haunted me until today; by default RoboHelp adds exclusive statements "NOT CBT1 AND NOT CBT2", by using inclusive build tags I have no errors, crashes and generates successfully; a working inclusive statement is "CBT1 AND CBT2". Writing the statement in this manner has resolved all crashes. Hope this helps.

RH10,

But without the NOT, what does the tag do? If RH by default includes whatever is not tagged with a NOT tag, then a tag without NOT doesn't include or exclude anything, right?

But, hey, I'm ready to try something that simple. So I removed the NOTs from the CBT expression then tried to generate again. No change to the symptoms I see, which are as described in this thread.

I work in RH9.

"If RH by default includes whatever is not tagged with a NOT tag, then a tag without NOT doesn't include or exclude anything, right?"

Wrong - it includes all text that is not tagged. Text that is tagged is included or excluded according to how you write the expression. That can be inclusive or exclusive.

I searched in these forums for "msvcr" and got a few results. Other causes could be your anti-virus software or installing an upgrade without first removing the previous version of RoboHelp.

Go to http://forums.adobe.com/community/robohelp and enter just msvcr (not the full name) in Search RoboHelp Forums to access the other posts. There are three search boxes, do use the bottom one.
