Robohelp 8 Licenses

To author content you need RoboHelp. The number of licenses you will need depends on how many authors you plan on having. If you have three authors adding content at the same time you need three licenses.

Each of the basic licenses comes with RoboHelp for Word, RoboHelp HTML and RoboSource Control.

You need RoboHelp Server if you are wanting the following features:

"Run Time" merging of content - You may create several projects that are totally independent of one another. After you install and configure RoboHelp Server, you publish each of the projects to the RoboHelp Server. Note that projects may also be configured to be merged without using RoboHelp Server.

Usage Reports - If you are using RoboHelp Server, you will see an additional tab in the RoboHelp HTML authoring application (not sure if you see this in RoboHelp for Word). The tab provides usage reports. For example Topic X was accessed 100 times while Topic Y was only accessed three times. Note that your Web Admin folks may also provide logs that provide the same type of information. You just don't see it from inside RoboHelp.

User Authentication - You may restrict access to certain areas of help. Then again, you can also do this with a basic web server setup.

You install RoboHelp Server on your Web Servers. I think it now runs on Apache. I stand to be corrected on this next bit, but I think that if you are load balancing across multiple servers you need to purchase a license for each server. Then you have to install it on each server.
