Robohelp 8 verses Robohelp 2019

Robohelp 8 generated a .htm file name  is wf_njs.htm

Robohelp 2012 generates a .htm file name  TAG_Help_6.03

When I promoted my generated Robohelp 2019 project   to our DSL, our Application did not load the General Help which is TAG_Help_6.03, Our applicaiotn was looking for a file named TAG_HELP.htm   So I made a copy of TAG_Help_6.03 for this to work, I took a copy of TAG_Help_6.03.htm and named it TAG_HELP.htm and it works on our Application.

The previous Robohelp 8 generated a .htm file named wf_njs.htm.

When I converted Robohelp 8 to Robohelp 2019, the wf_njs.htm file no longer worked.

Was Robohelp 2019 designed like this?

Please advise.

thanks

If you are using RoboHelp 2019 New UI, you are no longer generating Webhelp output. Your output will have been converted to Responsive HTML5, however the name of the output preset will not have been changed. You can tell which output you are generating by looking at the icon next to the output preset - Responsive is a little shield with a 5 inside. Frameless is a little globe. You can see in this image that I have a lot of presets with different icons. The two outputs labelled "Chocolate Cake" and "Multiscreen HTML5" are both Responsive HTML output as indicated by the little shield icon. The text name can be anything you choose to call it.

(Personally, for probably 20yrs I have chosen to call my output preset (SSL) by the project and purpose of the output, e.g. FancyWidget_PROD, FancyWidget_Review, rather than calling them by the output type. This means less confusion when I want to change what output type I'm using. 🙂 )

If you are using RH2019 Classic, then you will still be generating Webhelp output.

If you are using New UI, then Kevin's suggestion to look at switching to Frameless is valid, as Adobe seems to be focusing their efforts on that output and there are more configuration options for it, especially in RH2022. However, there is no suggestion that Responsive is being phased out any time soon, and it is a modern output that won't have problems running in any modern browsers at this time.

Thanks for your help.   The problem has been resolved.  The problem was with the web brower. Microsoft Edge versus Internet Explorer.   The System where the Robohelp is promoted to still uses Internet Explorer however our business has been upgraded to Microsoft Edge so Group Policy come into play with this issue .   Also the issue had to do with setting the URL IE compatibility which would set the Active X controls to run.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Hi Sharon,

    What output are you generating?

There is an area of the output where you can specify a start page (shown in the image attached). The default name of that start page is index.htm. The start page is the page that brings up your entire help system and should be targeted by your application.

The output that I use is WebHelp.

OK. First, I encourage you to switch to the new(ish) Frameless output. WebHelp is limited in that while it does work on Mac and PC, it is not mobile friendly. HTML5 is excellent, but Frameless looks fantastic to me.

When setting up your Frameless output, on the General tab, you'll see where the Start page is being created automatically and is called index.htm.

On the Layout tab, click the Browse icon and select a template (the look and feel of each template is 100% customizable).

Generate and view the output. Let me know what you think.
