Question

robohelp 9 will not deactivate

Hi,

I'm trying to move my RoboHelp 9 from an old PC to my new PC. I attempt to deactivate it but it fails, with a message "Please connect to the Internet". I am of course connected to the Internet.

Thanks! Bob

OK. Going forward Adobe will be focussing development on frameless outputs so I recommend considering frameless templates if you do go web based.

It's difficult bordering on impossible to answer how well the upgrade will go. On the one hand, there were so many changes along the way but on the other hand, I'm guessing the project is fairly straightforward if you have been able to continue working. What outputs do you create?

The new UI is radically different so you face a learning curve there. See RH2022 About Adobe RoboHelp (grainge.org) on my site. Also RoboHelp is now a subscription model.

If it would help, I could try upgrading it for you to see how well it goes. If you can share the project, then see the Contact page on my site and send the project as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the project direct.

    Thanks Peter,

Thanks for the offer there, but I've now downloaded and installed the latest RoboHelp trial, and tested the upgrade which appears to be working fine. I'll do some more in-depth testing tomorrow, but for now it looks like the way to go. Probably about time we did a revamp of the help content. We have been distributing .chm help, but may go for a browser build instead now that we are on the subject.

Cheers, and thanks for your help,

    Bob

That is a seriously old version and even if it could be activated, I doubt it would work on a modern machine. The issue though is that there is some legal reason behind your problem. RoboHelp 9 and other old versions along with other Adobe products contained some code Adobe were forced to stop using. Part of  the settlement was they had to withdraw activation.

I don't recall all the details as it was many years ago. No free upgrades before you ask.

    Thanks Peter,

It still operates fine for my purposes, but I guess I am going to be forced to update. Do you know if the new RoboHelp will import the RoboHelp 9 project without problem?

    Thanks, Bob
