when i load RH, i get the message that it could not open Word, but then Word opens with an error stating "Microsoft Visual Basic -- Code execution has been interupted"

This is a very straight forward project that has not been opened in months
Anybody have any thoughts?

Hoping you are still following this thread. The link you posted is broken so I wonder if you could provide more information?

Thanks.

Good post, very interesting to read.

I have resolved this problem. I plan to test the solution again, but I’ll wait until after our product delivery date of Sept 28th. Background:
I was/am certain the problem was related to MS Word and my network ID. It appeared that in order for RH and Word to talk the robohook.wll addin must be loaded, which is suppose to “automatically” happen. Part of this "automatic" process loads the robohook.wll to ("local drive":\documents and settings\"networkID"\application data\microsoft\word\startup). When working properly, this addin file creates two occurrences of the robohook.wll which can bee seen under Tools>Templates and Addins. If you look at the path for each of the loaded robohook.wll files, they are the same BUT one path is all in lower case. However if you navigate to that file location in the startup folder (path above) only one Robohook.wll file actually exists. My problem was that the creation of the “phantom” second robohook.wll with the lowercase path, was not happening (hence VB script 5152 error). A Google search turned up a lead regarding a broken MS Word registry file which lead me to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B92154 . I followed the steps outlined on this site (back up then delete current registry file) and RoboHelp and MSWord are talking again.

The original fix , to the first occurence of the problem, was for our then IT group to give me a new user ID.

Since then our small company is now part of a HUGE company with an "offshore" type IT service (no local support) , and getting another user ID is not likely.

Apart from what is on my site, the only other thing to ask is did IT give you a new user profile as well. If not ask them to keep your old one but also to try another one. When doing that, uninstall and reinstall both apps again.

Only suggesting it as worth a try.

Did you uninstall RH and Word and then reinstall Word first then RH after Docs and Settings got changed?

Originally when all the changes were made there were no issues. Then when it broke.... i did all the uninstalls/reinstalls with admin rights etc... etc. to no avail.

Robert, did you ever get this issue resolved? Our group has experienced this problem over and over since moving to X5 in Sept 06. Not sure why it breaks in the first place (the problem always points to the fact that one of two robohook.wll addins didn't load). By playing around with the robohook.wll files (renaming, re-moving /re-adding) we have managed to get robohelp and word talking again, but when the problem re-occurs the previous fix no longer seems to work. Today is the fourth time this issue has occurred for me (others in my group have had their share) in the last year. I've worked my way through the 3 previous fixes to no avail. The other change that occurred with the move to X5, maybe worth mentioning, was that our 'documents and settings' folder was moved from partitioned C: to D: The robohelp and word application data is still on C: (and neither of these can be changed).

The quickest and safest solution would be to uninstall and reinstall to get the right version. Also if this is not the cause, that might fix what was the problem.

I did the uninstall and reinstall and only have the the .wll reference, but still get the Cannot open Word. I guess I am just going to put up with it. Word still opens, but some of the functionality is clearly messed up. I have resorted to simply inserting images now. It just means I cannot use the Shed function

Take a look at my site under Print Issues. I know you just trying to open RH but there's a couple of things there about RH not being able to open Word.

Otherwise perhaps Word has been upgraded?

An uninstall and reinstall might also worthwhile.

RH was installed with your login?

Check if there have been any Add Ins in Word. See this link.

Hope it helps,
