Robohelp2020 user interface

Dear RH2020 users,

Does anyone have a way to change the looks of the user interface?

Currently I'm testing RH2020, as we want to go over from RH2017 to 2020 rather soon. However, the looks of the user interface are a major hurdle in the acceptance of RH2020 in our team. Put simply: the interface is ugly, very, very ugly. It creates the mood of a funeral with its grey, greyer, darker grey or more dark grey themes.

In order to lighten our moods, I would like to be able to use some colour on the screen. That would also improve the contrast, and by that productivity. Often I can't find text in menu's because I can't see the difference between the text and the background... like reading the text carved out on an old gravestone. As it is now, I don't like to work with RH2020, and already some collegues confirmed that.

Does anyone have ways to improve/ customize the Robohelp2020 HMI with different fontcolours, background colours etc? I would like to create a new theme or something. Is this possible? I cannot find a way to do so.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

I think the theory of the plain interface was to keep focus on the topic being worked on.

I guess so too. As well as the idea of context sensitivity. Keeps unnecessary information away = keeps distractions away. However, colours DO influence human moods. And the colour grey has, in most western cultures, a lot of negative associations - for example mourning. Btw, in other cultures that may be quite different! But, that is why I personally dislike the use of the colour. However, this is why I'm disappointed that I cannot adapt the working environment to another taste than that of the designers.

I have by now requested a feature to allow modifications to the looks of the interface - preferably the possibility to adapt a custom theme.

I hope that the design team picks this up!

I agree it's the most depressing interface non-colour scheme I've encountered.

Hi Amebr,

thank you for the reaction. By now I understand that there are no possibilities to adapt the looks of the program. That is really disappointing to me!

To clarify, I don't disagree a bit more contrast would help. Simply that I suspect you will find it is a gut reaction and soon find it less of an issue than you think.

Hi Peter,

yes, off course, with time you adapt and things do become less of an issue. At first I needed a heavy investment to get used to 2017....

But now, we want to go over to RH2020, it really has a lot of improvements to us. But, nobody gave me a positive reaction on seeing the program running on my testsystem for the first time.

And that lack of positive reactions from my colleagues (and myself), that worries me.

View > Theme gives the only options. I have to say that apart from contrast issues, I think you are the first person to describe it as ugly, never mind very, very ugly.

I get along with it well and in terms of productivity I find it far more usable than Classic ever was. Sure the contrast could stand some changes but it's a whole lot easier to find your way around. I now hate having to go back to Classic. Having used it for twenty odd years I find it slows me down.

As to finding things, see if this helps. RoboHelp Tour Introduction (grainge.org)

Your call but I think after a while you will soon get used and be working faster rather rather than slower.

Beyond that, follow Jeff's link to submit a feature request.

Hi Peter,

thanks for your reaction.

In my world grey is the default clolour of mourning, that's why I use "ugly". To me, slightly darker grey text does not work well on a slightly lighter grey background (or any other situation where text and background are displayed in the same colour, using saturation only to differ the text from the background).

I do like that RH2020 uses context sensitivity in the HMI, however. That is a great improvement compared to 2017 imho. It improves working speed by eliminating unrelevant information and therefore the new HMI is an improvement to me. But the looks are not.... these have gone from dull to......

As I said above I'll see what I can do with the link that Jeff gave me.

Thanks!

Come back in January and tell what everyone thinks about the theme and the general usability. I'll be interested in the view then.

Hi Jeff,

thanks for your reaction. At least that explains why I cannot find anything..... being a newbie with RH2020. But to be honest, also disappointing!

I'll see tomorrow what I can do with your link, thanks!
