Question

Search keywords in topic properties (using the suite)

To optimize the search function, I need to add search keywords to the topic properties in RoboHelp 8.
As I'm using the Technical Communication Suite 2, with every update of the book-file (the FrameMaker document) the included search keywords are overwritten...

Is there a workaround to keep the search keywords in RoboHelp (or to export/impport the search keywords)?

Hi cursta and welcome to the RH community.

Topic level keywords form a substantive part of the topic's HTM file therefore they would be overwritten when you update your FM source. I am not a FM expert but if there was a way to simulate the topic keyword inside your FM file, that would be the way to go. I wouldn't hold out much hope though. If no one else comes up with a solution, you may want to consider running the Topic Properties report with the Search Keywords option turned on. That way you'll have a list of what to reapply.

There's talk of using markers in FM to translate to keywords in RH, but that hasn't happened yet - keep your eyes peeled for it in 2011?

Technical Communication Suite 3 provides a new functionality of importing keywords from FrameMaker content to RoboHelp topics. The keywords can be specified for a FrameMaker file in FrameMaker through File->File Info menu item.

These keywords are imported as topic keywords for generated topics. The keywords for a topic can be viewed in Topic properties dialog.

This functionality may be tried using a trial version of TCS 3.

A similar functionality can be achieved in TCS 2 using the a RoboHelp script. Here are the steps to achieve that

1. Create a new marker type in the FrameMaker document (e.g. RH_Keyword) [Please note that creating a new marker type is mandatory for this functionality to work]

2. Insert the marker at the appropriate location in the FrameMaker document where the keyword is relevant. The keyword(s) should be specified as comma separated list in the marker text.

3. Import the content in RoboHelp.

4. Run the script to convert the markers into topic keywords. (The script may need to be updated for maker type name if you have created a maker other than "RH_Keyword"

The script can be downloaded from this link.
