Question

Search widget results in the same page

Hi, I'm trying to make use of the microcontent results in a search box other than the main search at the top of the page (included in the frameless skin). In 2020 this is added as a search widget. Pressing enter opens up these results in a new page - How can I get the results to polulate underneath the box on the same page? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks.

I have added a demo project to my site with a bit more information and also demonstrating a working chatpod. It also links to @johndaigle's demo.

The chatbot is something else I've considered implimenting as a solution thanks for the link. I'm going to go ahead and download it and see if I can tweak it enough to present it as an alternative. This is also a big help.

@johndaigle and I worked on this area and John made the breakthrough in getting this to work. He has provided the instructions in his reply and this link will take you to a demo where searching on "Do I get paid" will work as your project does. It also explains how to get an Answerbox.

I think it is not quite what you want as I think you are looking for all the answers to appear as you see them following that link. Unless @johndaigle knows better, I don't think you can leap from the search box to the Answerbox.

Sorry if this seems elementary, but I'm trying to make sure I understand your use of the term "search widget".

Here is the Compass Travel Sample Project with its Frameless Skin Topic page.

After clicking on the Magnifying Icon at the top of the Frameless Skin you are presented this default Search Box.

The Search results (including any Microcontent Search results) will appear expanded below the Search box with the Topic page dimmed in the background.

When you say "Search Widget", I take it you are referring to the Search Box Placeholder?

In this scenario, the results appear in a new window:

If this is your scenario, I'm not aware of any other way to construct the Search Results Placeholder-generated page without custom coding the Frameless Skin Layout.  Let me know if I'm on the right track and we'll take another crack at this.

Meanwhile, do make sure you are generating your Microcontent Output Preset and add the Microcontent to the Table of Contents before you generate your Frameless Output Preset.

Lastly, I created a 5 minute video that shows some of the overall Microcontent workflow. It does not cover your situation entirely, but it might help.  https://helpx.adobe.com/robohelp/tutorials/microcontent-authoring-video.html

    Thanks!
    John

Thanks - Yes, I am talking about the search box placeholder. I'm trying to leverage the microcontent feature in a way that will let my user find information for multiple topics and be able to do so without leaving the page every time. Something kind of like a reference guide for information that will be above it on the page (really the main reason for using the search box placeholder - since I can place it wherever I want). The formatting of the microcontent box is perfect for what I need so I'm really hoping to utilize that feature. I'm not scared of custom coding if thats whats needed, but I might need some direction to find the current function that it uses by default in order to update it...

However, the search box provided with the frameless skin at the top works as I'd like it to. If there's a way I can move it to another part of the page, it might be an alternative approach to consider.

Take a look at the Microcontent topic in the About RoboHelp sample project.
