Slow "Generating Primary Layout" when attaching PDF files

My project has a page that has links to several PDF files.  This page has been configured to be "Excluded from the full-text" search.  I note that when I generate the Primary Layout, it takes a long to finish with most of the time being spent on the "Processing Full-Text-Search data".  It sometimes takes around an hour to finish the whole generation process.  The process is much faster when I delete the links to the PDF files.

Is there another way that exclude the PDF from the Full Text Search or are there alternative efficient ways to attach PDF files without slowing down the generation process?

Thank you.

As long as you want to exclude all PDFs, see Using RH8 on my site. It covers Colum's instructions for excluding a file type.
