Question

Slow search times for Robohelp 2022 using frameless output

Hi!

We are using RH 2022.5.28 (updated today from 2022.3.93) and trying to use output type. Our project has about 6.000 topics, with a motherproject and childprojects (merged projects).

After we generate the Frameless output and putting it on our webserver, the Search has a drastically decreased response time the first time I search. Sometimes it is 10 seconds, sometimes more where the screen shows no response at all. Users complain because they think search is broken since the screen does not indicate that it is doing anything.

We use this in our company and has a lot of users, so this is why the response time needs to be faster.

What are we missing?

How can we speed up this response time?

Or will the update from 2022.3 to 2022.5 resolve this?

Is there some files we are missing to update or something?

Thanks in advance!

Bie

For anyone reading this thread further down the line, I don't know for sure if this fixed the problem for @Thatsawan271441674eim as I haven't had confirmation. I'm pretty sure that having the project on a network and/or generating to a network drive is the issue as when I located the project locally and generated locally, the search results were instant.

When Adobe first advised that using network drives was OK, they stated clearly that it was dependent on the speed of the network.

I have tested the merge sent by @Thatsawan271441674eim and got instant search results. I have a suspicion the issue is generating to a network drive and perhaps projects being on the network.

I have emailed you with what you need to do. In short your child projects folder also contains output files and there is no obvious parent. Get the structure right as in https://www.grainge.org/RoboHelp/Merged_Help/Merging_New_UI.htm and tidy things up. Then it will likely be OK.

What would help more is to see all the source projects in the way you have set them up. Can you share the projects? If you can, then see the Contact page on my site and send the project as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the project direct.

What I need is a single zip file that unzips to let me see the way you have structured things.

No, Peter's offering to take a look at your RH project (if you can share it with him).

@Thatsawan271441674eim GZ files might be the issue but there's only one way to find out, delete them from the output. It has only been an issue for a handful of users so I wouldn't be too helpful.

You refer to an FTP server. RoboHelp is designed ot work on a web server which has a different configuration. I think that is more likely to be the issue. If the search works when you generate to your hard drive, that supports this being the cause.

    Hi again!

First question, do you think the search would increase if we have fewer childprojects? We now have 26 and can downsize this to 7.

Next question, if we send the link to our webhelp to you, do you have the time to look at this for us? we can see that the browser takes a lot of memory when searching, maybe you can help us analyze this?

    Thanks in advance!

Also, you say had this issue in Update 3. Was that on switching to frameless or the new UI or had you been using earlier versions of 2022 successfully?

You didn't say if the output is slow in the locally generated version, is it?

Also open the output that is on the server direct, not from your app. Is it slow then?

We have robohelp on an ftp server build by our developers, it doesn´t matter if it´s locally or in the ftp, if you press the logo to get the full menu and then tries to press any other project it takes 30 seconds before responding. (see my picture in an other respond).

You start your post by saying you are now using 2022 Update 5 but then ask if the update will fix the issue. It sounds more like it was OK for you in Update 3 or you would have come here earlier and that the problem has started with Update 5. Please clarify that.

Does this problem occur with the locally generated output as well as the published version on the server?

The first things I would try are:-

    1.  Checking the parent was generated first. It's not usually necessary but worth a try when there is a problem.
    2. Selecting Republish All when you publish.
    3. Deleting everything on the server and publishing afresh.

Try those and then come back.

    Hi!

To clarify we had this problem in Update 3. It was just more a question if anybody else have had these kind of problems and if it was a bug or so that have been fixed to Update 5.

Sorry the amount of topics is not 60.000 but 6000.

Moderator Comment: I have corrected that.
