Question

Text line or frame changes content on import

It's Magic!...or something.

I am using TCS 4 (FM11, RH10).

This is a screenshot from FM. It is a graphic (PNG) with a text line or text frame (I've tried both) over it. The text is "Duration".

After importing into RH, this is what it looks like.

What happened to the text? It took each letter in "Duration" and added 3 places to it:  D becomes G (D ef G), u becomes x (u vw x), and so on.

WTF? (or ZWI in this case).

It also appears to have merged the text with the graphic into a single image in RH.

Can someone explain this?  Has anyone seen it before?  And how do I fix it?  I mean, besides changing the word to "Aro^qflk" (which does work, btw).

Help.

What's the font you're using, and what type are they? (PS, TTF, OT, etc.) If you use other "standard" fonts do you get the same behavior?

I've never experienced what you're seeing, and I did a bucketload of callouts like this for my book.

Also, what printer driver are you using? If needed, try changing it to Adobe PDF.

Hmmm.

Its a brand new file, so I wasn't expecting it to be corrupt just yet, but I deleted and recreated the collection anyway. It disappeared entirely from RH after the update.  Moved it and it was still missing.  Moved it back and it appears again, with the text the way it should be.  I think I will go lay down now.

I'll bet Harry Potter would be brilliant at this.  It sometimes seems like magic, what you have to do to get things working the way you want them, jumping through all the invisible hoops.  I can't even imagine the mechanism that would alter a text field that way.

Oh well, best not to examine these things too closely, just move on.

Thanks for the help.

That's pretty cool - never seen that before ;>)

I don't work much with graphics in FM/RH, but is the content in FM all inside 1 anchored frame? Is is all done outside of FM and brought in by reference or copying, or was it all assembled inside FM? What are your Conversion Settings looking like in RH for image content?

Let me warm your cockles further.  Using a little reverse psychology...

This doesn't help my printable output, however.

It is all inside one anchored frame.  I have deleted the pic, which is a linked file (by reference), and the box, and it makes no difference to the text.

RH Image conversion settings have not been fiddled with.

Just finished a MIF wash of the files as well.  No good.

BTW  The FM files are linked to RH for automatic updating.
