Question

The Table of Contents in the CHM file is garbled.

When generating Simplified Chinese and Korean CHM files in RoboHelp (RH) 2022, character encoding issues (garbled text) occur. Specifically, the Table of Contents (TOC) is corrupted, with some characters being replaced by question marks ("?").

I have verified the language settings, but no issues were found. I contacted Adobe Support, and they responded that "generating files that depend on the OS language is a specification of the current version."

However, CHM files generated with RH 2019 [Moderator edit - Classic] did not depend on the OS language settings. Is there a way in RH 2022 to generate CHM files that are independent of the OS language?

Sorry nobody noticed your post - the forum notifications are a bit hit or miss right now. Did you point out to the RH folks that it used to work in RH2019 (I’m assuming New UI version - if it was Classic, then you probably don’t have a leg to stand on)? You could always log a bug in the Tracker.

Thanks for getting back to me. I reached out to support, but they simply replied that the character encoding issues in CHM files (triggered by OS settings) are part of the current specs. I pointed out that everything worked fine in RH2019, but Adobe insists that this is just how RH2022 is designed.

I feel like I’m not getting the proper support I need for this issue.

Yes, but what version of RH2019 did it used to work in - Classic or NewUI? That makes a big difference to your case.
