Topics going AWOL

I have been experiencing some strange anomalies with source control over the past week.

Users open the project in source control. During the opening of the project some topics are deleted from a number of folders in the project. No popup appears to warn the user of any activity and the user does not have delete rights for that folder.

When checking source control the history shows that user deleted the topic and the time given is the same as the time they opened the project.

All authors use a local copy of the project, it is only myself that uses the server version. We have not had these problems in the last three years. The only worry is we had a non technical person performing some admin tasks when I was away helping another team. They may have done something inadvertently to the set up, but I can’t see what. Anyone have any clue?

There have also been cases where a topic exists in the server version of the project but the local version does not show it. Getting the latest version does not sort this, only copying a fresh version of the project to the local drive fixes the problem, or having that user import the topic from the server. This started the same time so may be related.

What do you mean with "server version"? RoboSource knows only the database, which is contacted via RoboHelp Office to organize the files. When working with RHO, every user only uses a local version of the project.

If local and database-version of a project seem to be out of sync it is usually due to corrupt CPD-files of the local version(s).

Try deleteing the CPD on an affected machine and open the project again. Does the error persist?

We did experience a CPD problem in the past and I did not think this was the same. However I have deleted the CPD file and remove delete access from users for now, and touch wood we have had no more issues.
